Geen enkele zanger in de geschiedenis van de blues bezat een zo diep rollend stemgeluid en kon daarmee de planken van de vloer zo hard doen trillen als Big Joe Turner (1911-1985).
In de loop van zijn lange carrière werd Turner bestempeld als boogiewoogie zanger, jazz zanger, rhythm and blues zanger en rock ‘n’ roll zanger, maar feitelijk bleef Big Joe Turner altijd zijn stijl trouw, want eerst en vooral was hij de grote blues zanger.
